Free Veterinary Clinic at Federal Institute of Amapá Provides Services

The Veterinary Clinic (ClinVET) at the Federal Institute of Amapá’s Porto Grande campus in the state of Amapá, Brazil, offers free veterinary care to pet owners. Staffed by students from the institute’s technical and higher‑education programs, the clinic performs clinical examinations, laboratory tests, imaging, and surgeries for both domestic animals and wildlife rescued by IBAMA under a partnership agreement.

Since its launch, ClinVET has completed more than 300 appointments, handling dogs, cats, and a range of wild species such as deer, marmosets, turtles, birds of prey and others. The service operates Monday to Saturday by appointment, scheduling about 12 consultations each week, and also serves animals seized by the Brazilian Institute of the Environment (IBAMA). The facility includes a reception area, consultation rooms, imaging suite, clinical laboratory, surgical block, pharmacy, necropsy room and sanitation lab, providing a practical learning environment for veterinary students.

The initiative aims to improve animal health in the community while giving students hands‑on experience in clinical, diagnostic and surgical techniques.
