Freedom initiatives urge Austria to reject WHO health regulation updates
The freedom initiatives ‘United for Freedom’ and the German ‘GemeinWohlLobby’ have submitted evidence to the Austrian FPÖ party regarding the International Health Regulations (IHR) of the World Health Organization (WHO). The groups aim to prevent Austria from ratifying the 2024 amendments to these regulations.
Critics argue that the amendments, adopted by the WHO General Assembly on June 1, 2024, contain procedural errors and violate international law. Concerns have been raised regarding the consensus-based adoption process and the potential for WHO recommendations to be implemented in a manner that restricts fundamental rights during health emergencies. Several nations, including Italy, Slovakia, Israel, the USA, and Argentina, have reportedly declined the changes due to sovereignty concerns.
