Freedom of Speech Medals awarded to activists and journalists in Gdańsk
The Grand Press Foundation held a gala at the European Solidarity Centre in Gdańsk to present the 2026 Freedom of Speech Medals. The awards recognize individuals and institutions dedicated to promoting public debate and protecting freedom of expression in Poland.
In the Institution category, Sister Małgorzata Chmielewska, president of the Chleb Życia Community Houses Foundation, was honored for her work supporting marginalized and vulnerable populations. In the Media category, Leszek Jażdżewski, editor-in-chief of Liberté!, received the award for his commitment to democratic discourse. Natalia Panczenko, founder of the Stand with Ukraine foundation, was recognized in the Citizen category.
Journalist Andrzej Poczobut was presented with a Special Freedom of Speech Medal. During the ceremony, organizers emphasized the importance of standing against hate speech and political manipulation of information.
