São Paulo launches free‑flow electronic toll on Anchieta‑Imigrantes corridor

The São Paulo State Transport Agency (Artesp) approved the free‑flow electronic toll system for the Anchieta‑Imigrantes (SAI) corridor, scheduled to start on 1 August. Pórticos equipped with cameras and tag readers will be installed at km 33 of the Via Anchieta and km 29 of the Rodovia dos Imigrantes, allowing vehicles to pass without stopping at traditional booths.

The total toll of R$ 40.60 will remain unchanged but will be charged in two installments of R$ 20.30, one in each direction. About 77 % of vehicles already use electronic tags – 71 % of passenger cars and 93 % of trucks – so most drivers will be billed automatically. Drivers without a tag can consult and pay the charge through the Siga Fácil portal, PIX or credit‑card within 30 days; failure to pay triggers a R$ 195.23 fine and five points on the driver’s licence.

Physical toll plazas will stay open temporarily to support the existing “combinação” convoy operation during fog, but are slated for demolition later in the year. The agency expects the new system to improve traffic flow, reduce accidents, shorten travel times for commuters and freight operators, and cut fuel consumption on the main route to the Port of Santos.
