Freegent releases Kakaku Navi Safari extension for automatic price comparison
Freegent Inc., based in Okayama, Japan, has released the official version of its Safari web extension, ‘Automatic Price Comparison Kakaku Navi,’ for iPhone and iPad users. The tool is designed to automatically search for better deals while users browse product pages on approximately 130 different shopping sites, including Rakuten and Yahoo! Shopping.
The extension calculates a ‘real price’ by factoring in the item cost, shipping fees, and earned reward points. It notifies users via a red banner if a cheaper option is available elsewhere, or displays a green ‘Good Price’ label if the current site offers the best value. Users can customize calculations based on their specific loyalty program statuses, such as Rakuten Card types or membership ranks.
To ensure privacy, the developer states that the app does not collect browsing history or URLs. Product information is processed locally on the device, and only specific product names, model numbers, and prices are sent to the server to facilitate price comparisons across other retailers.
