Freelancers over 50 often turn to self-employment due to job scarcity

A survey by freelancermap reveals that for many individuals over the age of 50, entering self-employment is a necessity rather than a choice. Approximately 32 percent of freelancers in this age group reported that they transitioned to independent work because they could no longer find suitable permanent employment.

Despite facing challenges such as lengthy application processes and perceived age discrimination, the majority of these professionals express satisfaction with their decision. About 85 percent of those surveyed stated they would choose self-employment again. The motivation behind the shift significantly impacts how respondents view their decision; those who moved into freelancing proactively for freedom and flexibility tend to report higher satisfaction than those reacting to a lack of job opportunities.
