Freelander 8 sets Guinness World Record at 6,002 meters in Tibet
The Chery Jaguar Land Rover (CJLR) joint venture has announced that its Freelander 8 Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) has earned a Guinness World Record. The SUV successfully navigated terrain at an altitude of 6,002 meters in the Tibet mountains, China.
This achievement surpasses the previous record of 5,980.05 meters set by a BYD Fang Cheng hybrid in 2024. The Freelander 8 utilizes a 1.5-liter turbo engine acting as a range extender to power an electric drivetrain, which helps mitigate performance loss caused by thin oxygen levels at high altitudes.
The vehicle features a four-wheel-drive system powered by two electric motors producing a total of 610 kW, paired with a two-speed gearbox on the rear motor to manage extreme terrain and varying inclines.
