Freelander 8 SUV breaks Guinness record and sees rapid sales
The new Freelander 8 SUV, a joint venture between Jaguar Land Rover and Chery, has achieved significant commercial success in China, securing over 5,000 orders within its first 12 hours of availability.
The vehicle is a range-extended electric vehicle (REEV) featuring a 60.3 kWh CATL battery and a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine that functions solely as a generator. Powered by dual electric motors producing 829 hp and 813 Nm of torque, the 5.11-meter SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. It offers a 221 km electric range and supports rapid charging, moving from 20% to 80% capacity in 12 minutes.
Additionally, the model earned a Guinness World Record for being the hybrid vehicle to climb to the highest altitude above sea level after successfully navigating extreme terrain on the Tibetan Plateau at an elevation of 6,002.33 meters.
