Freelander 8 SUV production begins in China

Production of the Freelander 8, a large family SUV, has started at a new plant in Changshu, China. The vehicle is the result of a joint venture between Jaguar Land Rover and Chinese automaker Chery, combining Land Rover's design heritage with advanced electric powertrain technology. Each unit features a dual‑motor electric system with a 1.5‑litre turbo‑charged gasoline engine acting as a generator, delivering over 500 hp and an electric range of more than 200 km from a 60.33 kWh CATL battery. The factory aims to produce between 60,000 and 100,000 units annually, with a target of 300,000 units per year by 2030. The Freelander 8 is designed for both on‑road comfort and off‑road capability, offering a 6‑ or 7‑seat layout, a 46.3‑inch ultra‑panoramic 8K display, and an Intelligent All‑Terrain System (i‑ATS) with optional lockable differentials. The model is slated for launch in Europe after its initial rollout in China.
