Freelander 8 SUV secures 10,000 pre-orders in 48 hours

The Freelander 8, a new SUV from the Chery Jaguar Land Rover (CJLR) joint venture, has recorded over 10,000 pre-orders within 48 hours of its launch in China on August 14, 2026.

Operating as an independent brand under the CJLR umbrella, Freelander utilizes Chery’s architectures combined with Jaguar Land Rover’s stylistic heritage. The Freelander 8 is an Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) featuring two electric motors and a gasoline engine that acts as a generator. It is advertised with a power output of 818 hp and an electric range of up to 310 km according to the Chinese CLTC cycle.

The vehicle is available in two configurations: a five-passenger variant starting at 339,900 yuan and a six-seat variant starting at 349,900 yuan. Notably, the Freelander 8 does not feature Land Rover emblems on its exterior.
