Freenet acquires waipu. tv to expand IPTV presence
Freenet, the mobile communications provider, has announced the full acquisition of the online television platform waipu. tv. The MDAX-listed company is purchasing the remaining 25 percent of shares in Exaring AG, the operator of waipu. tv, from minority shareholders.
The initial purchase price is set at 76 million euros, based on a total enterprise valuation of approximately 300 million euros. Depending on future performance-related targets, additional payments of up to 50 million euros may be made if business development is highly successful.
As a result of the takeover, the previously planned initial public offering (IPO) sought by minority shareholders will no longer be pursued. Freenet CFO Ingo Arnold stated that the move simplifies the ownership structure and provides long-term strategic clarity. The company intends to use the acquisition to expand its presence in the growing German IPTV market. The transaction will be financed entirely from liquid assets, and Freenet's dividend outlook remains unchanged.
