Freenet seeks full takeover of streaming service waipu. tv
Freenet is reportedly moving to fully acquire its streaming subsidiary, waipu. tv, by buying out the remaining minority shareholders of Exaring AG. This decision marks a significant shift from previous plans to pursue an initial public offering (IPO) for the platform.
According to reports from Bloomberg, the transaction could value the streaming service at up to 1.5 billion euros. Freenet already holds a 74.6 percent stake in Exaring AG. The move is seen as a way for Freenet to secure full control over waipu. tv, which has become a primary growth driver for the telecommunications and TV provider.
As of the end of 2025, waipu. tv reported nearly two million paying subscribers and provides access to over 300 TV channels. While Freenet has not officially commented on the specific valuation or the buyout, a company spokesperson stated they would not comment on market rumors but noted the group is working to secure the remaining shares.
