Freeport home invasion: Father of fatally shot teen apologizes

The father of Javon Hamilton, an 18-year-old who was fatally shot during an alleged home invasion in Freeport, has issued an apology to the family of the victims and to the prison officer involved in the shooting.

Victor Hamilton expressed shock and confusion regarding his son’s involvement in the incident, noting that Javon was a hardworking young man who had recently been retaking exams and dreamed of becoming a soldier. The shooting occurred on McLeod Trace after a group of armed men reportedly held a teenage girl and her grandmother at gunpoint.

Victor Hamilton noted that the prison officer who shot his son is a distant relative, adding complexity to the family's grief. The family had previously filed a missing persons report after Javon failed to return home from visiting a girlfriend.
