Freetown courts process larceny and housebreaking cases

Two separate legal proceedings involving theft and housebreaking have taken place in Freetown courts.

In one case, 23-year-old Daniel Kamara was sentenced to 24 months of imprisonment at the Male Correctional Centre by Magistrate John Manso Fornah. Kamara pleaded guilty to larceny after stealing a laptop, a mobile phone, and other items valued at Le26,300 from a school yard. The magistrate noted that while Kamara was a first-time offender, the complainant had been permanently deprived of the property. The sentence will be served in full unless the stolen items are restored to the owner.

In a separate matter, 21-year-old Anthony Sahr Koroma has been committed to the High Court to face charges of housebreaking and larceny. Koroma is accused of breaking into a residence in Leicester Village to steal a plasma television, an Apple computer, and other belongings valued at Le68,000. Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah ruled that sufficient evidence existed to transfer the case to the High Court, and Koroma has been remanded at the Male Correctional Centre pending trial.
