Freetown Metropolitan Police officers complete six-week training

Seventy newly recruited officers of the Freetown City Council (FCC) Metropolitan Police Force have completed a six-week intensive training programme at the Sierra Leone Peacekeeping and Law Enforcement Academy (SILEA) in Hastings.

The curriculum focused on three primary pillars: an educational component covering professionalism, discipline, and human rights; a drill and parade component for coordination and teamwork; and physical training to build endurance. Recruits were assessed through written examinations and practical exercises.

During the graduation ceremony, Freetown Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr urged the officers to view their uniforms as symbols of public service rather than opportunities to abuse authority. She emphasized the importance of professionalism, integrity, and respect for human rights as they prepare to serve the capital's population of over two million people.
