Freezer storage guidelines help preserve food quality

The optimal temperature for a freezer is around –18 °C, which prevents bacterial growth while maintaining the taste and texture of frozen foods. The coldest zones are at the bottom and against the rear wall, making them ideal for items that are most sensitive to temperature fluctuations.

Freezers can be divided into zones: the upper shelf is slightly warmer and suited for ice cream, ice, butter, snacks, nuts and ready‑to‑eat meals that benefit from easier access. The middle shelves hold the most stable temperature (about –18 °C) and are best for the majority of frozen produce and meals. Proper organization speeds up freezing, reduces the risk of freezer‑burn, and makes space more efficient. No‑frost models periodically activate heaters to melt ice, which can cause brief temperature rises, and opening the door or placing warm food inside also raises internal temperature until the items freeze solid.
