Frei Josué Laurindo leads Nova Mossoró missionary area in Brazil
Frei Josué Laurindo da Silva, a Carmelite priest, was installed as the new head of the Nossa Senhora do Carmo Missionary Area in the Nova Mossoró neighbourhood of Santa Luzia de Mossoró. The ceremony took place on Sunday, 2 August, with Bishop Dom Francisco de Sales presiding over the Mass and the dedication of a chapel to Nossa Senhora do Carmo. The appointment follows a invitation from the bishop to the Carmelite Order to establish a formation house for young Carmelite seminarians in the diocese.
Laurindo, born in Princesa Isabel (PB) in 1990, entered the Carmelite Order in 2012, was ordained in 2019, and previously served as parish priest in Carmópolis (SE) and Icó (CE). He now oversees the formation of junior Carmelite friars studying theology at the local Catholic university and assisting the diocesan evangelization effort.
