Freiburg and Senden unveil municipal water infrastructure plans

The city of Freiburg in Germany is drafting a comprehensive flood‑protection concept that will integrate new drainage measures for the Dreisam tributaries, including staged work on the St. Georgener Dorfbach, Bohrerbach/Hölderlebach and Glasbach. The plan, based on a new general drainage scheme, aims to deliver results by 2003/04 and will feed into the upcoming land‑use plan. The state of Baden‑Württemberg is supporting the effort with studies and a 50 % grant for flood‑risk mapping.

Meanwhile, the town of Senden is commissioning a fresh hydraulic calculation of its 120‑kilometre drinking‑water network, the first such study since 2011. The digital model will assess flow, pressure and fire‑water scenarios, identifying bottlenecks and guiding investment decisions for pipe renewal and fire‑suppression capacity. Local officials stress that the analysis will secure reliable supply and inform long‑term renovation strategies.

Both municipalities are using modern engineering tools to safeguard water services and prepare for future climatic and infrastructural challenges.
