Freilichtmuseum Roscheider Hof displays historic stoneware mantel clock

The Freilichtmuseum Roscheider Hof features a dark stoneware mantel clock dating to approximately 1900, designed in the Gründerzeit/Historicism style. The object incorporates classicist architectural forms, including a massive base and a rectangular body flanked by fluted half-columns with volute capitals and lion head pilasters. In art history, the lion serves as a traditional symbol of strength, power, and vigilance.

The clock includes a round dial enclosed by a profiled, gilded metal ring, featuring black hour numbers and fine, rounded hands. The mechanical movement is spring-driven and visible through an octagonal opening in the back. The artifact shows signs of age, including wear on the gilding and significant rust on the central metal plate of the clockwork.
