Freising fire departments implement emergency Lighthouse concept

Fire departments in the Freising district of Germany are enhancing emergency preparedness through the implementation of a “Lighthouse” concept designed to assist the public during large-scale power outages or severe weather events.

Under this system, local fire stations serve as designated contact points for citizens when standard communication channels, such as telephones or mobile networks, fail. In the event of a blackout, fire stations are to be occupied within approximately 30 minutes to act as emergency reporting centers and assistance hubs.

To support this infrastructure, municipalities have been procuring mobile emergency power generators. For example, the LB Mitte fire station has acquired a mobile generator on a trailer, which provides flexibility by allowing power to be supplied to various buildings or assembly points for at least 72 hours. Additionally, the acquisition of logistics vehicles is being prioritized to ensure that essential materials, such as pumping equipment and protective gear, can be transported to incident sites efficiently.
