Freising launches its first Christopher Street Day parade

A newly formed association in Freising, founded on 11 May, gathered 40 members to organise the town’s inaugural Christopher Street Day (CSD) on 11 July. The group, led by chair Michael Firlus and co‑chair Tanja Schöffmann, aims to make the event a permanent fixture that promotes visibility and acceptance for LGBTQ people in the region.

The opening celebration featured rainbow flags, a buffet, live music and slogans such as “Love is Love”. Organisers described the festival as a “heart project” and emphasized that “we will have a huge, beautiful, colourful celebration in the city centre”. A delegation from nearby Pfaffenhofen attended the launch, and good summer weather was forecast for the day of the parade.

The CSD Freising seeks to establish an annual queer‑rights demonstration, following the tradition of CSD events worldwide, and to embed the celebration within the town’s cultural calendar.
