Freising photographer captures rare rectangular lightning formation
Lev Legostaiev, a 46-year-old hobby photographer from Freising, Germany, captured unusual lightning formations during a storm on August 24. Using a setup of two DSLR cameras on tripods and an action camera from his balcony, he documented the electrical activity.
While one shot captured a massive vertical bolt over the Schlüterareal area, a second event occurring four minutes later produced a rare horizontal formation that appeared as a rectangle in the sky. Legostaiev, who monitors weather apps multiple times a day to prepare for storms, successfully documented both phenomena.
