French academic institutions drive regional innovation ecosystems

French regions are leveraging academic excellence to drive local innovation and economic growth. In the Alpes-Maritimes, Université Côte d'Azur (UCA) serves as a central pillar for the regional ecosystem. Holding the IDEX (Initiative of Excellence) label, the university hosts over 4,000 scientists working across 50 structures in partnership with major research organizations such as CNRS, INSERM, INRAe, and IRD. Similarly, the Grenoble Alpes region has established a dense innovation ecosystem, with Grenoble designated as the European Capital of Innovation for 2026. Grenoble INP-UGA plays a critical role in this landscape, contributing to a territory that supports 30,000 R&D jobs and over 750 startups created since 2000.
