ACPR warns on insurance claim delays, unveils anti-fraud portal

The Autorité de Contrôle Prudentiel et de Résolution (ACPR), France’s banking and insurance regulator, reported that the average settlement period for home‑insurance claims is 49 days. However, 20 % of claims take around 130 days and 10 % exceed 230 days, prompting the ACPR to call for tighter monitoring of payout timelines. The regulator also criticised insurers’ practice of using past claims—including those that did not affect the insurer’s cost—to justify contract cancellations, questioning the relevance of such criteria.

In parallel, the ACPR launched Regafi.fr, a unified online register that aggregates information on authorised banks, insurers and payment‑service providers. The portal aims to help the public identify legitimate financial actors and combat scams, offering daily‑updated details such as company name, headquarters address and scope of authorisation. By consolidating these data, the ACPR seeks to protect French savers from fraudulent schemes and improve transparency in the financial sector.
