French agricultural regions grant property tax relief for 2026 crop losses
Agricultural producers in the French departments of Indre and Maine-et-Loire will receive automatic reductions in their 2026 non-built property tax (TFPNB) due to significant crop yield deficits caused by exceptional weather conditions.
In Indre, tax relief rates vary by land type: 30% for arable land, orchards, and vineyards (with Valençay producers receiving 30% and Reuilly or Châteaumeillant producers receiving 50%), and 60% for meadows. In Maine-et-Loire, reductions reach 40% for agricultural land, 50% for vineyards and meadows, and 60% for orchards.
The relief is applied automatically to the legal tax debtor. For leased land, owners are responsible for passing the tax savings on to the farmers. This measure applies strictly to the non-built property tax; other taxes, such as built property tax and waste collection fees, remain due in full.
