French astronaut Sophie Adenot conducts ChlorISS plant experiment on ISS

French astronaut Sophie Adenot carried out the ChlorISS botanical experiment aboard the International Space Station, using NASA's Veggie plant‑growth system. The project, supported by CNES, ESA and NASA, continues a near‑century‑long scientific tradition of cultivating plants in microgravity that began in the 1940s.

ChlorISS, launched in 2026, involved more than 260,000 students across France, linking classroom education with space research. The experiment aims to understand how plants adapt to weightlessness and to develop technologies for self‑sufficient food production on future Moon and Mars missions.
