French authorities launch road safety operations in Lumbres and Rennes

Law enforcement agencies in France have conducted targeted road safety operations in Lumbres, Audruicq, Aire-sur-la-Lys, and Rennes to combat rising traffic accidents and dangerous driving behaviors.

In the Saint-Omer arrondissement, gendarmerie units performed extensive vehicle checks focusing on documentation, insurance, alcohol levels, and narcotics. Sophie Pagès, the sub-prefect of Saint-Omer, noted a rise in serious accidents, including seven deaths since the start of the year, five of which involved two-wheeled vehicles. These operations also aim to address property crimes such as burglaries.

In Rennes, the National Police, alongside the DIR Ouest and municipal police, organized a prevention and awareness campaign in the city center. The initiative focused on speeding, substance abuse, and protecting vulnerable road users like pedestrians and cyclists. The campaign sought to inform and sensitize the public to reduce high-risk behaviors on the road.
