French bakeries lower prices to combat rising living costs
French bakeries are implementing various strategies to address rising living costs and consumer purchasing power.
Maison Kayser held a one-day promotional event in Paris to celebrate its 30th anniversary by reverting to 1996 pricing. During this event, baguettes were sold for approximately 60 cents (converted from 3.92 francs) and croissants were priced between 45 and 60 cents. The operation took place across eleven Parisian locations to mark the anniversary of Éric Kayser’s first bakery opening.
In Cuise-la-Motte, baker-pastry chef Laurent Visse has implemented a permanent price reduction to maintain accessibility for his customers. Despite rising energy and raw material costs, Visse has lowered the price of a baguette to €0.95 and set the price of cake slices at €3.80. The artisan stated the goal is to provide quality products at a lower cost to help customers maintain moments of pleasure despite economic pressures.
