French banks deploy shared Cash Services ATMs

Major French banking institutions are accelerating the deployment of ‘Cash Services’, a project to replace traditional automated teller machines (ATMs) with versatile, shared hybrid machines. The initiative is a collaboration between BNP Paribas, Société Générale, Crédit Mutuel Alliance Fédérale, and CIC.

Unlike traditional ATMs that only dispense cash, these new machines allow for a wider range of transactions, including the deposit of banknotes, coins, and checks. While the physical hardware is shared across different banks, customers will still see their specific bank’s interface upon inserting their cards.

The project aims to reach nearly 7,000 operational sites by the end of 2026. As of June 2025, 1,000 sites had been equipped, with a target of reaching approximately 3,000 machines by the end of the year. For customers, the transition aims to provide more free withdrawal points and reduce fees for using machines outside of their primary bank. For the institutions, the shared model is intended to reduce maintenance and operational costs.
