French biotech startups focus on scaling drug production
French biotechnology startups are addressing the critical transition from laboratory discovery to industrial-scale production. Ispiron, led by CEO Irina Gbalou, focuses on the challenge of manufacturing complex biomolecules. Unlike traditional chemical drugs, biopharmaceuticals rely on living cells and microorganisms, making stable and reproducible large-scale production significantly more difficult than small-scale laboratory work.
Similarly, the startup ThrombInnov is leveraging decades of scientific expertise to accelerate the development of innovative medicines. Based in Strasbourg, the company specializes in blood platelets to create customized scientific tests. These tests evaluate how new molecules interact with blood to detect potential harmful effects, demonstrating how academic research can be converted into commercial value for patient care.
