French breakfast habits show growing generational divide
A new study by the Syndicat Français des Céréales du Petit Déjeuner, conducted by ObSoCo, reveals that breakfast remains a significant cultural staple in France, with 76% of citizens eating it regularly and 55% consuming it daily.
Despite this, a notable generational divide is emerging. While 89% of seniors aged 65-75 maintain a daily breakfast habit, only 24% of those aged 18-24 do the same. The traditional ‘coffee-bread-butter-jam’ model remains the standard for many, particularly among older populations, but younger generations are increasingly opting for more practical or nomadic eating habits.
While 66% of consumers prefer sweet breakfasts, the rise of on-the-go eating—currently at 17% for those under 35—suggests that traditional French breakfast rituals are evolving due to changing lifestyles.
