French Bulldog dies from overheating during pet taxi transport in Brazil
A French Bulldog named Ayra died from overheating while being transported via a ‘taxi-dog’ service in São José do Rio Preto, Brazil. Digital influencer Nathália Concon Rodrigues shared the account of the tragedy on social media to warn other pet owners about the specific risks faced by brachycephalic breeds.
The incident occurred while the family was having their home fumigated, necessitating the dog's transport to a pet shop. During the trip, the animal suffered health complications and was rushed to a veterinary clinic. Despite being intubated, the dog succumbed to cardiac arrest caused by extreme body temperature elevation.
Veterinarians note that brachycephalic breeds—including French Bulldogs, English Bulldogs, Pugs, and Shih Tzus—possess anatomical facial structures with shorter and narrower airways. This makes it significantly harder for them to regulate body temperature through panting, leaving them highly vulnerable to heatstroke in warm climates.
