French CEA Teams with Playground Global to Accelerate Deep‑Tech Startups

The French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) and Silicon Valley venture capital firm Playground Global have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on commercialising deep‑technology ventures. The partnership will focus on advanced computing, microelectronics, artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, energy, biotechnology and related sectors. It will link CEA research institutes, including CEA‑Leti, with Playground’s early‑stage portfolio companies for joint research, development and evaluation of startups emerging from CEA laboratories. The goal is to speed the transition from laboratory breakthroughs to global market impact through technology scouting, commercialisation strategies and startup acceleration. Julie Galland, director of the CEA’s Technological Research Division, said the collaboration leverages both organisations’ expertise to extend the reach of CEA’s research ecosystem. Pat Gelsinger, general partner at Playground Global, added that combining CEA’s technical depth with Playground’s scaling experience can help turn scientific achievements into consequential companies.
