French center-left leaders react to Glucksmann primary victory

Following his significant victory in the center-left primary elections, French presidential candidate Raphaël Glucksmann has criticized U.S. President Donald Trump. Glucksmann characterized Trump’s decision to ease restrictions on Russian diesel exports as a move that benefits the Kremlin at the expense of European interests, describing the U.S. leadership as either a ‘useful idiot’ or an agent working toward the destruction of European power.

Glucksmann also warned that the potential election of far-right opponent Marine Le Pen in 2027 would represent a victory for Vladimir Putin and a step toward the defeat of the European continent. While Le Pen has condemned the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, some members of her National Rally party remain opposed to providing aid to Ukraine.

Former French President François Hollande commented on the primary results, expressing satisfaction with the center-left's clear direction following Glucksmann’s 66% victory. However, Hollande cautioned that unity cannot consist solely of socialists, urging the movement to expand its reach to the broader society and engage with citizens who hold doubts.
