French civil servant network ‘Les Phrygiens’ accused of supporting LFI
Reports have emerged regarding a network of high-ranking civil servants known as ‘Les Phrygiens’ who are allegedly working secretly to support the political objectives of the La France insoumise (LFI) party. Established around May 2026, the group reportedly includes members within various ministries, the Bank of France, diplomatic services, and the European Commission.
According to testimonies, the network operates through Telegram and monthly in-person meetings to prepare for a potential Jean-Luc Mélenchon presidency. Their work involves producing programmatic notes on topics such as ‘eco-regions’ and media concentration to bolster LFI’s policy positions. The group is reportedly linked to Clémence Guetté, an LFI deputy responsible for programmatic preparation.
Éric Ciotti, president of the UDR, has condemned the activity as ‘entrisme’ (infiltration), describing it as an ‘extremely worrying threat to the Republic’ and calling for immediate audits of the administration to ensure civil servants remain neutral and are not funded by taxpayers to serve a specific political candidate.
