French companies face significant data sovereignty risks

A new report by Everpure, based on research by Vanson Bourne, reveals that 93% of French companies believe a failure in data sovereignty would result in significant financial or reputational risk. Despite these concerns, a gap in preparedness exists, as 58% of these organizations lack a formal data sovereignty strategy and 62% report having limited visibility and control over their data.

Geopolitical instability and physical infrastructure vulnerabilities highlight these risks. For instance, Amazon Web Services (AWS) recently reported an inability to restore access to certain client data in its Bahrain region following drone strikes in the UAE and Bahrain during a conflict with Iran. The damage exceeded regional redundancy capabilities, leading to permanent data loss for clients who had not migrated their workloads to other regions in time.
