French DDI administration faces budgetary and mission uncertainty

During a Social Administration Committee meeting on October 6, 2026, discussions regarding the Interministerial Departmental Directorates (DDI) highlighted concerns over future public service resources and budgetary outlooks. While the Secretary General reviewed recent summer challenges, such as heatwaves and forest fires, representatives noted a lack of clarity regarding mission reinforcement and upcoming financial constraints.

The CFDT union raised concerns regarding the economic focus of the administration, questioning whether the 30,000 agents within the DDI are being viewed primarily as costs. Additionally, the administration reported on the current budget, noting increases specifically in real estate sectors. The creation of the 'Foncière de l’État' to manage state property was also noted, which will require DDIs to pay rent to the state.
