French developer auctions MacBook Pro lid space for brand advertising

Vincent, a Bordeaux-based independent developer known as @VynseDev, has raised over 7,300 euros by auctioning advertising space on the lid of his future MacBook Pro. The project, titled ‘Brand My Mac’, aims to fund the purchase of a MacBook Pro M5, which is estimated to cost approximately 2,529 euros.

The auction features ten distinct advertising slots on the laptop's cover. Within just two days, the total bids reached nearly 290% of the computer's retail price. One highly contested area above the Apple logo has seen bids reaching 1,715 euros from See.io. Winning brands will have their logos printed on vinyl stickers applied to the device.

Inspired by similar initiatives like ‘BrandMyTesla’, the developer leverages the visibility of the device in tech-centric environments such as coworking spaces and cafes. The campaign has gained significant traction on social media, accumulating millions of views on X (formerly Twitter).
