French driving laws regarding helmet usage
Under French traffic laws, wearing a helmet while driving a car is not specifically prohibited. However, legal expert Jean-Baptiste Le Dall notes that certain restrictions apply regarding safety and sound devices.
Drivers are strictly forbidden from using any device capable of emitting sound, such as headphones or earpieces, while driving. Using a helmet to listen to music, podcasts, or phone calls is prohibited and can result in a €135 fine and the loss of driving points.
Furthermore, drivers must maintain clear vision and full control of the vehicle at all times. While full-face helmets or certain religious garments like the niqab are not explicitly banned, the driver's ability to see the road and react to movements must not be compromised.
