French driving laws regarding music volume and phone use

Under French highway law, drivers can face penalties for playing music at excessive volumes. According to automobile law expert Jean-Baptiste Le Dall, Article R412-6 requires drivers to remain in a state that allows them to perform all necessary maneuvers without delay.

If law enforcement determines that music volume prevents a driver from hearing correctly or driving safely, they may issue a second-class fine of €35. Additionally, drivers may be penalized for noise disturbance if the volume is high enough to disturb others, such as people sleeping at night.

Regarding mobile technology, while tools like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are common, drivers must not handle their phones while driving. Using a handheld mobile phone can result in a €135 fine and the loss of three points from a driver's license.
