French electronic music added to National Cultural Heritage

French electronic music, known as the ‘French Touch’, has been officially added to the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage. This designation recognizes the movement that propelled France onto the international music stage during the 1990s and 2000s.

A dossier prepared by the Ministry of Culture, during the tenure of Rachida Dati, pays tribute to influential figures such as Daft Punk, AIR, and Laurent Garnier. These artists are credited with establishing French electronic music as an international benchmark.

The Ministry noted that these genres are now deeply rooted in French society, fostering social and cultural mixing, experimentation, and free expression across all regions. The movement’s cultural significance was previously highlighted during the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics.
