French energy companies expand presence in Greece

French energy companies are significantly expanding their presence in the Greek renewable energy sector, contributing to the country's green transition. These companies are moving beyond simple investment to participate across the entire energy value chain, including the development and operation of solar and wind farms, as well as electrical interconnections.

TotalEnergies Renewables is a notable player in the market, managing a portfolio of 424 MW in wind and solar projects. Recently, the company sold a 50% stake in this portfolio to Asterion Industrial Partners in a deal valued at 508 million euros, representing approximately 1.2 million euros per installed MW. Other major entities, such as EDF Renewables, also maintain a strong footprint in the region. The growing penetration of renewables in Greece brings challenges regarding licensing processes, grid upgrades, and the securing of sufficient electrical capacity.
