French environmental groups demand climate action in 2027 budget

A collective of 53 organizations gathered in front of the French Ministry of Economy on September 15 to demand urgent climate measures be included in the 2027 finance bill. Led by France Nature Environnement (FNE), the group includes Greenpeace France, WWF France, the Farmers' Confederation, and various professional unions.

The collective is calling for several specific actions, including a substantial increase in the Green Fund for local authorities, the taxation of fossil fuel companies, and the implementation of a “grand chaud” (major heat) plan. FNE emphasized that lawmakers must provide the necessary resources to limit climate change and prepare for its consequences as they prepare to vote on the state budget.

Additionally, the group called for an end to the repression of climate activists and attacks on environmental democracy. Approximately 200 demonstrations are scheduled across France on September 26 to advocate for climate, biodiversity, peace, and social justice.
