Italy wins men’s épée gold and adds six medals at European Fencing Championships

The European Fencing Championships took place in Antony, France, in June 2026. Italy emerged as the most successful nation, collecting a total of six medals across individual and team events.

Italy secured gold in the men’s épée team competition, repeating the country’s dominance in the discipline. Individual gold was also claimed by Simone Mencarelli in men’s épée. In the women’s sabre team event the Italian squad earned bronze, while Arianna Errigo added a silver medal in the women’s foil final. Tommaso Martini captured bronze in men’s foil, and other Italian fencers reached the later stages of their respective draws.

The Italian delegation, coached by technical director Diego Confalonieri, will now focus on the remaining team events, aiming to add further podium finishes before the championships conclude.
