French Film Festival in Brazil announces De Gaulle diptych

The 17th edition of the French Film Festival in Brazil has unveiled its poster, featuring an image from the cinematic diptych ‘De Gaulle: The Free France / La Bataille De Gaulle’. Directed by Antonin Baudry, the film depicts the efforts of General Charles De Gaulle to mobilize resistance against German occupation.

Despite a slow initial critical reception, the film has achieved significant commercial success, surpassing five million admissions in France through word-of-mouth. The production, based on historian Julian Jackson’s book, stars Simon Abkarian as De Gaulle and Simon Russell Beale as Winston Churchill.

The festival is scheduled to run from October 29 to November 11 in Brazil, with the film being distributed by Synapse Distribution. The event is supported by various entities, including the French Embassy in Brazil, the Ministry of Culture, and the City of Rio de Janeiro.
