French Film Festival opens as part of Kinomania in Sofia

The 16th edition of the French Film Festival, held as part of the Kinomania program, has commenced in Sofia. The festival features contemporary French cinema under the theme ‘Cinema of Today’.

The opening film is Alexander Castagnetti’s ‘Le Fantôme de l’Opéra’, a modern adaptation of Gaston Leroux’s novel starring Eva Cassel, Romain Duris, and Julien de Saint-Jean. Set in Paris at the Palais Garnier, the story follows a young ballerina caught in a supernatural love story.

Other notable screenings include ‘Fjord’ by Cristian Mungiu, which won the Palme d’Or at Cannes, and Andrey Zvyagintsev’s ‘Minotaur’. ‘Minotaur’ follows a corporate executive in 2022 Russia whose life unravels under professional pressure and social instability. The film was France’s selection for the Oscar for Best International Feature Film.
