French Football Federation upholds Samir El Mourabet red card

The French Football Federation (FFF) has upheld the red card issued to Strasbourg midfielder Samir El Mourabet during their 4-0 loss to Olympique de Marseille. The refereeing direction confirmed the dismissal was consistent with the Laws of the Game.

The incident occurred in the 56th minute when El Mourabet made contact with the calf of Pierre-Emile Højbjerg. While the referee did not see the action live, video assistant referee (VAR) intervention led to the decision. The FFF classified the gesture as an act of brutality, noting that attempting to kick an opponent constitutes such an act regardless of whether contact is made. The disciplinary commission will now determine the length of the player's suspension.
