French Football Federation withdraws support for Gianni Infantino's FIFA re-election
The French Football Federation (FFF) has unanimously decided to withdraw its support for Gianni Infantino’s re-election as FIFA president, scheduled for March 18, 2027. FFF President Philippe Diallo cited a loss of trust in FIFA's leadership and governance, stating that the current management no longer aligns with the federation's values.
The decision follows significant controversy surrounding the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) project, which proposed selling a 20% stake in FIFA's commercial rights to private investors for approximately $4.2 billion. Although the project was eventually abandoned due to widespread international opposition, the FFF maintains that the incident damaged the reputation and unity of global football.
France joins several other European federations, including those from Italy, Belgium, Scotland, and Sweden, in distancing themselves from Infantino. The FFF has announced plans to initiate consultations with international experts to propose deep structural reforms aimed at restoring transparency, accountability, and independence within FIFA.
Despite the growing European opposition, some reports suggest Infantino may still possess sufficient votes to secure re-election through strong alliances in other regions, such as Africa and the Caribbean.
