French Football Federation withdraws support for Gianni Infantino

The French Football Federation (FFF) has unanimously decided to withdraw its support for Gianni Infantino’s re-election as FIFA president, scheduled for March 18, 2027. FFF President Philippe Diallo cited a breakdown in trust, stating that the current management of world football no longer aligns with the federation’s values.

The decision follows significant controversy surrounding the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) project, which proposed selling a 20% stake in FIFA’s commercial rights to private investors for approximately $4.2 billion. Although the project was eventually abandoned due to widespread opposition from confederations like UEFA, AFC, and CONCACAF, the FFF maintains that the incident damaged the integrity and unity of the sport.

France joins several other European federations, including those from Italy, Belgium, Scotland, and Sweden, in distancing itself from Infantino. In response to the governance crisis, the FFF intends to initiate consultations with international experts to propose deep structural reforms aimed at restoring transparency and independence within FIFA.
