Midgar Studio liquidated, ending 18‑year French game developer

French independent developer Midgar Studio, founded in 2008 by Jérémy Zeler‑Maury, announced its closure after a court‑ordered liquidation. The studio, known for titles such as Hover, Edge of Eternity and the upcoming Edge of Memories, had been owned by publisher Nacon since 2022. Efforts to find a buyer for the studio failed within the legal time‑frame, leading the commercial court to order the company's dissolution.

The closure was confirmed by Zeler‑Maury in a LinkedIn post, where he thanked the team and urged other studios, publishers and recruiters to consider the displaced staff, estimated at 30‑50 people. Midgar Studio's shutdown adds to a series of financial troubles at Nacon, which has also seen studios like Spiders, Kylotonn and Cyanide enter insolvency proceedings.

The liquidation marks the end of an 18‑year run that contributed significantly to the French JRPG scene, leaving its games available to players but casting uncertainty over the pending Edge of Memories project.
