French government considers new taxes on employee savings
The French government is considering new social security contributions on employee savings schemes as part of its 2027 budget preparations. Minister of Economy and Finance Roland Lescure confirmed that the executive is exploring ways to generate savings, which may include imposing levies on profit-sharing, incentive schemes, and employer contributions to savings plans.
Currently, these mechanisms offer advantageous social tax regimes that allow companies to reward employees while limiting labor costs compared to standard salary increases. A change in this system could alter the current balance for both employers and employees. The government aims to find several billion euros in savings through both new revenue and reductions in state and local administration spending.
